Why Hire A Personal Trainer?

Safety

First and foremost, the most important reason to hire a trainer is because everyone is unique, and without a tailored program that takes your specific health and situation seriously, it is easy to cause injury to yourself or exacerbate current health issues.

A trainer can make sure you are performing all exercises with proper form. Especially if you’ve had a past injury or surgery – you need to know which exercises can build strength in that area of weakness or make sure you don’t re-injure yourself or worsen the issue.

Simplicity

In addition to raising 4 children, working full time, and battling thyroid disease for 20 years, I tried to stay healthy for years to no avail. I know the challenges one faces when going at full speed in life just trying to keep up. Those challenges make it difficult to stay healthy, spend time on our own well-being, and juggle hectic schedules. I knew there had to be an easier way, so I made a life changing decision to do something about it and follow my dream to positively impact lives through long term health, well-being, personal achievement, and fitness. My goal is to make it simple for others to fit effective personalized fitness into their busy schedules. I take the planning, guessing, traveling, and every other challenge I can out of your way so that you can live a simple sustainable healthy lifestyle.

Sustainability

Most people need more than just a running program or a weight lifting program, and extreme fitness is not always sustainable. I integrate many types of training into a workout to keep it exciting, effective, and enduring. My focus is YOU. I am trained in Yoga, Pilates, Cycle, Water Aerobics as well as Fitness Nutrition. One day you might be up for a 3 mile run, another day might be stressful and have tight muscles and we’ll do some yoga, or we could combine a little bit of everything into a workout. There is no one way to lose weight or feel better, everyone gets a program detailed for the individual needs.

Motivation

Per US National Library of Medicine and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 38% of people report no physical activity in their leisure time. Projected by 218 overweight people take up 65% of the population which results in 21% of US Health costs and obesity being $344 billion in direct costs. Per Fitness Mentors Personal Training stats of 2017 one in three Americans are obese. With stats like these you’d think it would be a no brainer to get going, but still, it's one of the hardest things to do. A personal trainer can take some of the “hard” out of it on many different levels and help you stay accountable. Making sure you show up, do the work and get the results you’re going for.

Mental Health & Wholeness

The fact that exercise helps alleviate anxiety, depression and increase overall wellbeing is more relevant that ever. Recent studies by the ADAA or Anxiety and Depression Association of American indicate 40 million adults suffer from some sort of stress, anxiety and/or depression. The National Institute of Mental Health shows 11% of adolescents have had a depressive disorder by the age of 18, and women are 70% more likely to experience depression in their lifetime. A trainer not only keeps you on track physically, but can also help get the endorphins going and be a shoulder to lean on. Some trainers are well versed in nutrition and can help you with an eating plan that creates a healthier lifestyle and reduces mood changes. According to HHS.gov or US Department of Health and Human Services, good nutrition is vital to a healthy lifestyle. An exercise, nutrition and life coach all in one! What are you waiting for?

How Much Does Nutrition Matter?

Nutrition, in my opinion is the most important aspect of living longer and healthier lives. Eating the right kinds of foods that go along with your lifestyle, dietary needs and personal preferences will help you feel better longer. It is important that we follow a nutritious diet consisting of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, minerals, vitamins and of course water. Finding the right balance is the important part, but it can be made easier with the help of a trainer and the right apps.

The key to weight loss is achieving a negative energy balance, or taking in less calories than you burn, says Albert Matheny, R.D., C.S.C.S., co-founder of SoHo Strength Lab and PROMIX Nutrition.

What you eat matters more than how you work it off, but fitness will push you past plateaus and help you achieve your ultimate goals.

Should I Compete?

Competition is not for everyone, but it is proven to be a great motivator. Competing gives you a goal to work towards, gives you standards to compare to and also gives you the social interaction of other athletes. The community can be used to keep you motivated and provide support.

A new study published in the journal Preventive Medicine Reports indicates Competition motivated participants to exercise overwhelmingly more than social support. In fact, attendance rates were 90% higher in the competition-motivated group and the combined group, compared with the other two groups that had no competition.

But CAN'T I JUST Do It On My Own?

In a recent 5 month study, a group of adults participated in a two phase fitness intervention - the first stage was supervised by a personal trainer, in the next stage, the group did the exact same workouts but on their own.

Results:

The data from the MOV band showing the physical activity levels for each participant during the supervised exercise program indicates that the participants were averaging 5.8 miles each day. This is compared to the unsupervised portion of the study where activity levels dropped significantly to 4.3 miles.

Over the course of the supervised exercise program, participants increased both the number of push-ups and curl-ups that were able to be completed during post-testing. After the unsupervised exercise period, the number of push-ups and curl-ups that the participants were able to complete was not significantly different from the number completed prior to beginning the program.

There was a significant increase in resting heart rate from the end of the supervised exercise program to the end of the unsupervised portion of the study.

Conclusion This investigation suggests that supervised exercise programs in previously sedentary individuals are effective in improving overall fitness. In contrast, even after a period of five months of supervised exercise, in these individuals they were not equipped to exercise in an unsupervised setting and will not be able to maintain or improve their fitness without the support of a program. However, while the participants were unable to meet the recommendations of minimal exercise on their own without the structure of the program, they did demonstrate behavior to continue to perform exercise by enrolling in the next session of the program. This indicates a positive move in a direction that may lead to a continued increase in self-efficacy for exercise, as this structured exercise program was beneficial at improving physical activity behavior and health-related variables.
